In 1918, Kokomis was acquired by Chessman Kittredge, Sr. and since that time it has been lovingly sustained by his five children and their offspring. In 1987 it became clear to the five sibs that a plan for succession was necessary. Tax considerations, and a growing user base led them to the formation of Kokomis, Inc. (an Ohio Corporation, with license to do business in Ontario) as the best method to own and manage the island. This also assured that the island experience that our family has all come to know and love would be available to all descendants of Dottie and Chess, and that the required affairs would be handled in an orderly manner, with expenses spread equitably. In the three decades that followed, the invaluable legacy has been successfully nurtured.
